Stellar Fights' First Go in Delaware a Success!
Written by WKA USA
Brad Dalton's debut installment of Stellar Fights couldn't have gone any more smoothly. With matches ranging from Submission Grappling to Muay Thai to San Shou to MMA, this amateur card was packed with action--and the house was packed with spectators. Every team had its fair share of supporters, and the Georgetown Firehouse was packed to standing room. Despite the small-town atmosphere, this show was beyond sold out.
These fans were in for a treat. Both Thai matches and the San Shou match ended in knockouts. Two of the three grappling matches ended in submissions--one by way of triangle and one by way of guillotine choke. As for the MMA matches, only two went to decision; the remainder ended in four submissions and one TKO.
Especially exciting to fans and fighters alike were the belts. This show featured no fewer than four event title matches. Matt Oakley of Carlson Gracie Academy took the Stellar Fights Middleweight Title by armbar a minute into the first round. Bruce Baker of the USMC did the same in the third round, taking the Stellar Fights Super Welterweight Title. For the Stellar Lightweight Title, Richie Smith of CNC Promotions guillotined Kenny Kirk with only one second left to go in the first round. Finally, in an all-out five-round war between two champions, Cheron Gregory of Team ROC took the unanimous decision over Phil Patey.
With such a great card and so many talented fighters, it will be hard to wait until Stellar's projected second installment in mid to late January. In any case, Brad Dalton did well to call his fledgling promotion "Stellar".
